Our Safe Services
Safe supply
We supply new and reconditioned safes across the full range of types and sizes. Whether you need a compact home safe to store passports and documents, or a large commercial safe to protect cash, data or valuables at your business premises, we can help you choose the right safe for your needs and budget.
We supply all major brands including Chubb, Dudley, Phoenix, Fichet, Securikey, Churchill, Tann and S.M.P. Our engineers can advise on the correct cash rating, fire rating and physical size for your specific requirements, and we carry a stock of reconditioned safes which offer excellent value for money.
Safe installation
A safe is only as secure as its installation. A freestanding safe that is not properly anchored can simply be removed by a burglar, the contents are then at their leisure. Lockmasters engineers install safes to the manufacturer’s specification, anchoring floor and wall models correctly and ensuring the safe is sited in the most effective position within your property.
We install all types of safe including:
Freestanding safes — anchored to the floor using masonry bolts or security fixings
Underfloor safes — set into the floor and concealed beneath carpet, flooring or a mat
Wall safes — recessed into a cavity wall and concealed behind a picture or panel
Floor safes — specifically designed for installation in concrete floors
Deposit safes — with a slot or drawer for cash deposits without opening the main door
Data safes — with a fire and heat resistant lining to protect electronic media and documents
Fire safes — rated to protect contents from fire for a specified period
Vaults — large capacity installations for commercial and high-value applications
Safe servicing and maintenance
Like any mechanical device, safes benefit from regular servicing. Locks and bolts can stiffen over time, combination mechanisms can drift, and hinges and locking bars can wear, all of which, if left unchecked, can eventually result in you being locked out of your own safe.
Lockmasters recommend having your safe serviced every two to three years as a minimum, or annually for high-use commercial safes. A service typically includes cleaning and lubricating the mechanism, checking and adjusting the bolts and locking bars, testing the combination or key lock, and checking the door seal and hinges.
Regular servicing is significantly more cost-effective than an emergency opening if the mechanism seizes. It also ensures your safe remains in warranty-compliant condition.
Safe opening and emergency access
If you’ve been locked out of your safe whether because you’ve forgotten the combination, lost the keys, the mechanism has jammed, or the battery has failed on an electronic lock, Lockmasters can help. Our safe engineers are trained to open a wide range of safe types using specialist techniques, with the goal of gaining access without causing damage wherever possible.
We can open:
Combination wheel safes — mechanical dial combinations that have been forgotten or have drifted out of alignment
Key safes — where keys have been lost, broken or are unavailable
Digital and electronic safes — including battery failure, forgotten PIN and electronic faults
Jammed and seized safes — where the mechanism has stiffened due to lack of servicing or age
Fire-damaged or water-damaged safes — where the safe has been exposed to a fire or flood and will not open
Following an emergency opening, we can repair or replace the lock mechanism to restore full security.
Safe lock replacement and upgrades
If your safe is in good structural condition but the lock has worn out, been compromised, or you simply want to upgrade to a more convenient mechanism — such as replacing a traditional key lock with a digital combination — we can supply and fit replacement lock mechanisms for most safe makes and models.
This can also be important if keys have gone missing or if former occupants or employees had access to your safe. Rekeying or replacing the lock is a straightforward way to restore full control over who can open your safe.
Types of Safe We Supply and Install
Home and domestic safes
For most homeowners, a compact freestanding or underfloor safe provides secure storage for passports, jewellery, cash, important documents and small valuables. We advise on the appropriate cash rating which determines your insurance cover for cash stored in the safe and the correct physical size and weight for your chosen location.
Underfloor safes are particularly popular for domestic properties as they can be completely concealed and are extremely difficult to remove. We install underfloor safes in both timber and concrete floors.
Commercial and business safes
Businesses have more complex requirements than domestic customers. The amount of cash kept on the premises overnight, the type of documents or data that needs protecting, the number of people who need access, and any insurance requirements will all influence the right safe specification.
We work with businesses of all sizes across Hampshire and Surrey, from independent retailers and hospitality businesses through to larger commercial premises and offices. We can advise on the correct EN-rated cash safe for your insurance requirements, and install deposit safes that allow cash to be secured without giving all staff access to the full contents.
Fire safes and document safes
A standard security safe is designed to resist forced entry but will not protect its contents from fire. If you need to store documents, data storage devices, or media that would be damaged or destroyed in a fire, you need a safe with a fire-resistance rating.
Fire safes are rated to protect paper documents and electronic media for a specified time period at a specified temperature. We supply and install fire safes across the full range of ratings, and can advise on the appropriate specification based on what you need to protect.
Data safes
Electronic media — hard drives, USB drives, tapes and memory cards is damaged at much lower temperatures than paper. A standard fire safe rated for paper documents may not provide adequate protection for digital media. Data safes are specifically engineered to maintain lower internal temperatures during a fire, protecting electronic storage alongside documents.
If you store backups, sensitive data or digital records on site, we recommend discussing your requirements with one of our engineers to ensure the safe you choose provides the right level of protection.
Wall and underfloor safes
Wall safes are recessed into a cavity wall and can be concealed behind artwork, panels or built-in furniture. They are less visible than a freestanding safe, though a determined burglar who knows where to look will find them. They are best suited to properties where concealment is a priority and the cash or valuables rating is modest.
Underfloor safes offer a higher level of concealment and are generally more resistant to removal attempts. Set flush into the floor, they can be hidden beneath carpets, rugs or removable floor panels and are extremely difficult to extract even if discovered. We install underfloor safes into both timber suspended floors and solid concrete.

How to Choose the Right Safe
Cash rating and insurance
Safes are given a cash rating by their manufacturer, which corresponds to the maximum insurance cover a standard insurer will provide for cash stored in that safe. The higher the cash rating, the more physically secure the safe and the higher the insurance cover. Before purchasing a safe, check your insurance policy to understand any specific requirements your insurer may specify a minimum cash rating or a particular standard.
EN standards
The European Norm (EN) standard is the recognised benchmark for safe security in the UK. EN grades run from Grade 0 (the lowest) to Grade 6 (the highest), with each grade specifying a cash rating and minimum physical security requirements. Most domestic safes fall into Grade 0 or Grade 1. Commercial safes holding larger amounts of cash or high-value items typically require Grade 2 or above. Our engineers can advise on the appropriate grade for your specific requirements.
Fire rating
Not all safes offer fire protection. If fire resistance is important to you, look for a safe with a recognised fire rating such as NT Fire 017 or EN 1047. These ratings indicate the internal temperature the safe will maintain and the duration for which it has been tested. Paper documents typically require 30 to 60 minutes of protection; electronic media requires a lower temperature rating and may need a purpose-built data safe.
Size and weight
Choose a safe that gives you room for everything you need to store, with some spare capacity for future needs. Heavier safes are more difficult to remove and therefore more secure, but make sure the floor in your chosen location can support the weight. Our engineers can advise on siting and fixings during the survey.
Lock type
Traditional key locks are simple and reliable but require secure key management. Combination locks, either mechanical dial or digital keypad, remove the key management issue but require the combination to be remembered and kept secure. Digital locks offer convenience and allow multiple user codes but require battery management. We can advise on the most appropriate lock type for your circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. Our engineers are trained to open combination safes using specialist techniques. In most cases we can gain access without causing damage to the safe. Following an opening, we can reset the combination or replace the lock mechanism if required.
-
Don’t force it, applying excessive force to a seized safe can cause internal damage that makes opening more difficult and more expensive. Call us and we’ll arrange for one of our safe engineers to attend. Seized mechanisms are a common problem with older safes or safes that have not been regularly serviced, and our engineers deal with them routinely.
-
Yes — this is a very common call-out. Most electronic safes have a facility to apply external power to open the door even when the internal battery is flat. Our engineers carry the necessary equipment to do this. On some older models a manual override key is also provided. Once we’ve gained access, we’ll replace the battery and check the mechanism is working correctly.
-
We recommend servicing every two to three years for a domestic safe in normal use, and annually for commercial safes or any safe that is opened frequently. Regular servicing prevents the mechanism from seizing and keeps the safe in warranty-compliant condition. It is also significantly cheaper than an emergency opening if something does go wrong.
-
Yes. We install underfloor safes in both suspended timber floors and solid concrete floors. The process varies depending on your floor type — our engineer will assess the best approach during an initial survey. Most domestic underfloor safe installations are completed in a single visit.
-
Yes. We carry a stock of quality reconditioned safes that have been professionally inspected and serviced. They are in full working order and offer good value compared to new models. Availability varies, so please call us to discuss what we currently have in stock.
-
Yes — this is something we deal with regularly. Bring your policy wording or the relevant section of your insurance schedule and we can match the requirements to an appropriate safe. If you’re unsure what your policy says, your insurer or broker should be able to confirm the minimum safe specification they require.
