Insurance-Approved Locks — Why They Matter

Many homeowners don’t realise that their home insurance may be invalid if their locks don’t meet the standards specified in their policy. Most UK insurers require locks to conform to one of two main standards.

BS3621 — British Standard Mortice Deadlock

The BS3621 standard applies to 5-lever mortice deadlocks the type most commonly found on timber doors. A BS3621-rated lock carries the British Standards Kitemark and provides resistance to picking, drilling and forced entry. If your policy mentions a ‘British Standard lock’ or ‘BS3621’, this is the standard it’s referring to.

TS007 3-Star — High Security Euro Cylinder

The TS007 3-star standard applies to euro cylinders — the type used in most UPVC and composite doors. A 3-star rated cylinder offers resistance to snapping, drilling, picking, bumping and pulling. It is the current gold standard for UPVC door security and is increasingly required by insurers.

What about anti-snap locks?

Lock snapping has become one of the most common methods of burglary in the UK. Many standard euro cylinders even some sold as ‘anti-snap’ can be compromised in seconds using widely available tools. A genuine anti-snap cylinder uses a sacrificial break-point that separates the outer section of the cylinder from the internal locking mechanism when force is applied, rendering the attack useless.

Lockmasters only fit cylinders that meet TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond standard. We do not fit inferior ‘anti-snap’ products that offer limited real-world protection.

We also offer free insurance conformity surveys. If you’re unsure whether your current locks meet your policy requirements, call us and one of our engineers will assess your property at no charge.

Lock Types We Supply, Fit and Repair

Every door type requires a different locking solution. Our engineers carry a comprehensive range of locks and can advise on the right product for your specific door and security requirement.

5-Lever Mortice Deadlock

The standard lock for timber front and back doors. BS3621-rated models meet most insurer requirements. We supply, fit and replace all leading brands.

Euro Cylinder (UPVC and Composite doors)

The key mechanism in most modern UPVC and composite doors. We fit TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinders as standard. Upgrading from a standard cylinder typically takes around 15 minutes.

Multipoint Locking System

The full locking mechanism inside a UPVC or composite door, hooks, rollers, and deadbolts all activated by a single key turn. We carry common replacement gearboxes and mechanisms for same-visit repairs.

Rim Night Latch (Yale-type)

Surface-mounted spring latch for timber doors. We supply auto-deadlocking models that double-lock when you leave, preventing credit card and shimming attacks. Note: a night latch is not typically insurance-approved on its own and should be used alongside a mortice deadlock.

Digital and Keypad Locks

Keypad or fob-operated locks for residential and commercial use. No keys to lose or copy. We supply and fit models from Codelocks, Simplex and others.

Mortice Sashlock

A combination of a deadlock and a latch in one unit — common on side and back doors. Operated by a handle from inside and a key from outside.

Panic Bar and Push Bar

Exit-only hardware for commercial premises and fire exits. We supply, fit and service panic bar sets to BS EN 1125 standard.

High-Security Cylinders

For commercial properties requiring restricted key systems where keys cannot be copied without authorisation. We supply Abloy, EVVA, KABA, Mul-T-Lock and other high-security brands.

Lock Services by Door Type

UPVC doors

UPVC doors are the most common source of emergency call-outs. The multipoint locking mechanism can fail due to wear, misalignment, or a faulty gearbox leaving the door either impossible to open or impossible to secure. Our engineers carry a wide range of replacement mechanisms and can carry out most UPVC repairs on a single visit.

For security upgrades on UPVC doors, we recommend replacing the standard euro cylinder with a TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder. This is one of the most cost-effective security improvements you can make and typically takes less than 20 minutes.

Composite doors

Composite doors combine a timber core with a glass-reinforced plastic outer skin and are increasingly common across Hampshire and Surrey. Most composite doors use a euro cylinder and multipoint mechanism, the same upgrade advice applies. We also repair and replace composite door hardware including handles, letterplates and hinges.

Timber doors

Traditional timber doors typically use a mortice deadlock combined with a rim night latch. If your timber door was installed more than 10–15 years ago, it may have an older lock that no longer meets current insurance requirements. We can assess and upgrade both the deadlock and the cylinder to bring your door up to current standards.

Commercial doors

We work with commercial premises of all sizes across Hampshire and Surrey, including offices, retail units, schools, and industrial properties. Commercial requirements often include master key suites one key that operates multiple locks — restricted key systems, and panic hardware for fire exits. Contact us to discuss your specific requirements.
